If you have an existing 2GIG hardwired or wireless security system you are part of a growing population of alarm system owners in the US.  There are millions of working 2GIG panels maintained by authorized security dealers throughout North America and farther.  These are rock solid systems and known to last with few problems for many years.  We began selling 2GIG hardware in 2008 when they were first released on the market.  We still have customers running their original equipment, though many have upgraded to more modern systems such as the Honeywell Lyric or Qolsys IQ Panel 2.  The nice thing about Honeywell and 2GIG is they both share the same frequency and format for RF wireless sensors making upgrades easy.

Depending on your model communicator we have options for SecureNet, Alarm.com, and Telguard Interactive Service providers.  When you own a 2GIG wireless system, SafeHomeCentral can monitor it!

What 2GIG Model Alarm System Do You Have?

2GIG markets their control panels and systems under various names.  Most dealers (like us) sell the traditional, generic 2GIG branded versions.  By generic we mean that ANY authorized 2GIG dealer and central station can monitor the system.  Others are private labeled and may be locked down so a customer move to a competing dealer is difficult or costly.  Brinks for example private labels many 2GIG hardwired and wireless panels.

The first step in getting started with 2GIG alarm monitoring is understanding the model alarm panel you own. SafeHomeCentral has all of the connectivity options you need, from POTS/VoIP dial-up, to broadband Internet/WIFI, to tamper-free cellular communication with our six redundant UL central stations.  Keep in mind POTS, VoIP, and IP Internet have the risk of intruder line tampering (cut) and the latter two have the additional issue of home LAN devices going offline during a power failure unless protected with backup battery.  Our cellular options have none of these risks.  Depending on control panel and communicator choice, we have AT&T and Verizon 4G LTE cellular options available. 

3G WarningTake note existing Verizon 3G CDMA and AT&T 3G GSM communicators can no longer be registered with Alarm.com or the cellular carriers.  If currently activated they will continue to work until the 3G networks begin to be shutdown in 2020 but they can not be reregistered with a new security dealer as of June 2019.  Only 4G LTE cellular communicators can be registered with Alarm.com.

 

Land lines in homes are rapidly disappearing because of the high cost to maintain a phone line when frankly everyone in the home has a cell phone in their pocket.  Many alarm owners have kept this obsolete communication medium in their home just for their alarm system.  Eliminating your $40+ POTS line and switching to celluar monitoring actually provides a significant monthly savings.  What’s more going cellular will increase your family’s security because landlines are at risk of being cut by an intruder before they attempt a break-in to your home.

Using a landline via your Internet provider, also know as Voice over IP (VoIP) is not considered a reliable communication path by major alarm panel manufacturers and central stations.  This is because VoIP is designed to work with analog voice communication, not digital signalling which your alarm panel will use to send signals to the central station.  While we have many customers successfully using VoIP it really depends on what provider you use in your area.  We do not recommend its use and will require additional testing to make sure the signals are correctly being received by the central station receivers on a consistent basis.

If you choose to use landline or VoIP for central station alarm monitoring, only 2GIG GC2 panels are compatible.  Most manufactuers are moving away from dialup alarm signalling and 2GIG did not include a telephone dialer in their new GC3 or Rely wireless systems for example.

Please note: Interactive services (remote arm/disarm) can only go through IP Internet or cellular connectivity, not landline/VoIP.
