Self-Monitoring Option
Self-monitored security systems are exactly what they sound like, they are alarm systems you technically monitor yourself. The key advantage is the cost savings over a professional UL central station dispatch plan while still retaining the modern interactive features that AlarmNet and the TC2 smartphone app provides. This includes not only notification of alarms and trouble issues received on the Total app but you can also remote arm and disarm your security system plus control Z-Wave home automation and video options as well.
In areas where police response can be very slow the motivation for central station dispatch may not be very strong. Its not for everyone. Many people just want interactive control of their alarm and home automation devices.
Keep in mind “you” are responsible for calling your local police, fire, or medical departments in the event of an emergency at home with self-monitoring. If you miss the app alert on your phone or out of a WIFI or cellular service area an emergency may not be acted upon, at least in a timely manner. This is why we always recommend 24×7 UL central station dispatch to customers. Few insurance companies offer the typical 10% – 20% annual discount on premiums with self-monitored alarm systems.

Internet/WiFi Option
AlarmNet IP broadband Internet/WiFi services are suitable for delivery of alarm signals from both residential and commercial sites. All that is required for either application is an always-on Internet connection. Customers will see the advantage of sending alarms over the Internet since this connection frees up an otherwise busy phone line which will allow easy verification by the Central Station in the event of an alarm. While cost is less expensive than cellular AlarmNet, keep in mind that Internet still presents outside line tamper risk as well as potential communication loss due to power failure. Switched over my primary home and vacation home saving almost $400 a year over the dealer who I used for the past five years. My fault for not looking around sooner. Was very easy to switch both places over. Luckily I had upgraded to 4G last year so no new hardware was needed. I didnt have Total Connect 2 service on my vacation place and this was a welcome addition – for less money.
Way cheaper than the dealer who installed my L7000 Lynx Touch panel. The poeple I spoke with were very friendly and knowledgable about Honeywell systems. I went with the annual plan that controlled just my security functions which is the Smart Security I believe. Already recommended to my neighbor!
Just bought a new Honeywell Lyric online through Amazon and researched several companies for inexpensive alarm monitoring. These guys actually answer the phone (many did not or called back) and were very easy to deal with. Tim answered all of my questions in detail and had me online with their central station in under an hour. I bought the cellular module using Verizon and it works well. The Total Connect 2 app is easy to understand and use for both me and my wife. She is using an Android phone while I have an iPhone and the app appears the same.
I recently upgraded my SafeWatch Pro to a Vista-20P using one of the LTE upgrade kits so I could get much lower monitoring pricing compared to ADT and use Total Connect 2. I did not have the capability to remote control my alarm system previously so having the ability to use TC2 is fantastic without ripping my whole ADT installed system out. While I did have to buy a new communicator (my ADT cell unit only works with ADT I found out), saving $30/month makes the investment worthwhile and of course now have remote control! The installation of the communicator was very easy since SafeHomeCentral walked me through the procedure while on the telephone with one of their techs and testing with their central station was also easy. I frankly had not done testing like that with ADT so I appreciated the time the tech spent testing with me. Highly recommended service.

Using the Total Connect 2 app on my phone (iOS) as well as my wife’s (Android). Works great and easy to use. You’d be surprised how much you will actually use it. Was wondering if it would actually be useful but has already allowed me to arm the system twice this week from work after rushing out of the house and forgetting to activate my Lyric panel. Great pricing too compared to my last dealer!
Switched my Lynx Touch 7000 to Safehomecentral last week. Very easy migration because the tech staff is very experienced with Honeywell systems. Definitely shows. Thanks Chris!
Had no clue I could add Total Connect 2 to my older Vista-20P control and remote arm and disarm the security system from my iPhone. Already had a cellular communicator but my last dealer never offered TC. For half of what I was paying I now have remote arming/disarming which is great. Simple switch once my original dealer “released” my cellular communicator’s MAC address. Had to call three times to get them to release it! Tim got me all setup on my iPhone and my wife’s Galaxy (Android). Great app, easy to use and understand.
Using Total Connect 2 with my Lyric wireless security system. The home automation control (lights and my thermostat) is great.
