Affordable Cellular Interactive Alarm Monitoring
We offer discounted cellular interactive services with real UL central station alarm monitoring that will work with basically every professional alarm system on the market. The cellular communicator installed in your system is what determines what service we use to transmit your alarm signals and interactive commands (remote arm/disarm, home automation, video) to our central station and your smartphone app or PC. We are authorized dealers with Alarm.com, Honeywell AlarmNet, SecureNet, Alula, Telguard, UpLink, and Connect24.
In some cases the cellular communicator in use is proprietary to the alarm company (such as ADT or Vivint for example) and would need to be replaced. This generally means replacing just the communicator, not the whole alarm panel. Non professional-grade systems such as Ring or SimpliSafe can ONLY be monitored by the manufacturer directly. There is no option to use affordable dealers such as SafeHomeCentral with their equipment.

Currently activated cards will continue to operate until the Verizon 3G network shutdown December 31, 2022. In addition existing AT&T 3G or 4G communicators can no longer be activated with AlarmNet after June 26th, 2019. For new activations after this cutoff date you will need either a Verizon LTE or AT&T LTE cellular communicator. Be aware many panels require a firmware update in order to use an LTE card.

Standard Interactive Alarm Monitoring
For Interactive Service providers other than Alarm.com and Honeywell AlarmNet which are the big guys on the block we also partner with multiple other quality services which may be tied to specific systems. For example the Alula Connect+ (AKA Helix) can only use SecureNet or Alula for interactive services. Many DSC systems go through their Connect24 service. These services also are affordable no contract and use our real UL central stations.
If you can upgrade your cellular communicator with an Alarm.com card, do it! The service is just cheaper with more overall features!

Connection: Cellular
Use a cellular carrier (Verizon for CDMA and AT&T for GSM) for a fast, lower risk connection to our central station. Line tampering by an intruder is virtually eliminated! Since cellular communicators are either internal or wired directly to security systems they are powered and battery backed up by the alarm panel. This is important since LAN devices are generally NOT protected against power failure. See our list of compatible cellular communicators.

Interactive Self-Monitoring Pricing
Same great Alarm.com features just without UL central station dispatch
Available worldwide via Internet connection or dual-path cellular/Internet US
We have the web’s best pricing and feature mix for Alarm.com self-monitored interactive services. If you own a compatible system from Qolsys, 2GIG, GE/Interlogix, DSC, or Honeywell we can help you start saving today! If you don’t have an Alarm.com cellular (or dual-path) communicator installed check our Alarm Communicator page to see if you can add one.
Self-monitored security systems are exactly what they sound like, they are alarm systems you technically monitor yourself. The key advantage is the cost savings over a professional UL central station dispatch plan while still retaining the modern interactive features that Alarm.com and their smartphone app provides. This includes not only notification of alarms and trouble issues at home received on the Alarm.com app but also remote arm and disarm control of your security system plus Z-Wave home automation and video options as well.
In areas where police response can be very slow the motivation for central station dispatch may not be very strong. Its not for everyone. Many people just want interactive control of their alarm and home automation devices.
Keep in mind “you” are responsible for calling your local police, fire, or medical departments in the event of an emergency at home with self-monitoring. If you miss the app alert on your phone or out of a WIFI or cellular service area an emergency may not be acted upon, at least in a timely manner. This is why we always recommend 24×7 UL central station dispatch to customers. Few insurance companies offer the typical 10% – 20% annual discount on premiums with self-monitored alarm systems.
For customers outside of the US our self-monitoring Alarm.com plans can be used anywhere in the world. In the US connectivity to Alarm.com is via cellular or dual-path cellular / Internet. But as long as you have Internet connectivity to Alarm.com you can use their interactive app and self-monitor a compatible system from outside the US!
Note: Existing Verizon 3G/CDMA communicators can no longer be activated (or reactivated) after June 30, 2019. Currently activated cards will continue to operate until the Verizon 3G network shutdown December 31, 2022. For new activations after the cutoff date you will need either a Verizon LTE or AT&T LTE cellular communicator. Be aware many panels require a firmware update in order to use an LTE card.

Home Security System Alarm Monitoring Basics
Your home is your castle as they say. It’s where you go to escape and find peace in a world full of madness. For this reason, it’s imperative that you create an environment that is safe for the sake of you and your family. A burglary is something that can greatly diminish the amount of comfort you feel in your home. It is one of the most traumatizing violations you can experience, both emotionally and physically […]
Land lines in homes are rapidly disappearing because of the high cost to maintain a phone line when frankly everyone in the home has a cell phone in their pocket. For many alarm owners they’ve kept this obsolete communication medium in their home just for their alarm system. Eliminating the POTS line and switching to celluar monitoring is actually a monthly savings, and increases security.
Phone lines are always at risk of being cut by an intruder before they attempt to break-in to your home. Land lines also have the added risk of being disabled by weather events such as a down tree taking down the communication path to your home during a storm or snow blizzard. Cellular of course has no wires to be cut and the “communicator” is generally powered by your alarm panel which has a backup battery in case of power failure.
At just $14.95 per month for basic cellular monitoring its hard to hang on to a landline if just for your security system. The additional $6 per month moving to cellular monitoring from landline ($8.95) is way less than the $40+ per month you pay for a POTS line. Most homeowners save roughly $400 annually just switching to cellular alarm monitoring and ditching their land line. While VoIP is a cheaper alternative for phone service its not a reliable medium for alarm signalling.
And homeowner insurance carriers love cellular alarm monitoring. Be sure to check what premium discount they offer. Most grant a 10%-20% annual savings!
What Is Needed To Switch To Cellular Alarm Monitoring
In order for your security system to communicate with our central station via cellular it must have a cellular communicator either built-in, or added as an external hardware option for hardwired panels.
Most professional-grade wireless systems on the market today have optional plugin modules for cellular service. You just pick what carrier (generally either AT&T or Verizon) and slide the card in. The plugin card must be compatible with your wireless alarm system model and generally made by the same manufacturer.
For hardwired systems (the traditional hidden control panel) you simply connect a small add-on cellular communicator to your existing system which replaces the phone line. In fact, your alarm system will still think it has a phone line connected. The new communicator will provide the alarm panel with a dial tone so it can still “dial” the central station. In reality the communicator is reading the alarm signals to be sent (what type of alarm and zone) then transmitting this data to a third party interactive services provider that accepts both cellular and Internet based alarm communications relaying this information almost instantaneously to the central station for alarm dispatch as appropriate.
What’s nice is not only can you send alarm signals to your central station wirelessly there is usually the option to remote control your alarm system from anywhere you have WIFI or cellular service on your smartphone. What an upgrade!
Installation is pretty simple as long as you have basic hands-on skills meaning you can attach four wires to your alarm panel and mount the unit on the wall next to the control panel. SafeHomeCentral can talk you through this over the phone and provide the exact screw terminals you need to connect on your alarm panel. Remember its just four wires or a plugin card!
Cellular communicators are made to work with a particular interactive service provider such as Alarm.com, Honeywell AlarmNet, Telguard, Alula, SecureNet, Connect24, and Uplink.
Existing Cellular Communicator
In many cases we can reuse your existing cellular communicator if upgrading as long as it is a 4G LTE model. If you have an older 3G model with either AT&T or Verizon they can no longer be activated with these carriers. This is because carriers are preparing for their 3G sunset (shutdown) in the next 18 months. If you still have active 3G service with an alarm dealer it will continue working until the carriers shutdown their 3G network, but timing has no set date per region. However all 3G communicators MUST be replaced with 4G models soon and certainly if changing alarm dealers.
Note on existing ADT Cellular Communicators – These communicator, even if 4G LTE models, can ONLY send signals to an ADT data center / central station. If you are looking to get away from ADT high pricing and long contracts then a new cellular communicator is required. The good news is the existing alarm system and sensors does not need to be replaced, just the cellular communicator. These are easy to swap out DIY and we can guide you through the process over the phone.
Switching to a different alarm monitoring provider is not difficult, with some possible exceptions below. When our cost for real UL central station alarm monitoring is substantially less expensive, no contract, and support is better, its a natural move.
Are you under an existing alarm monitoring contract? Be careful because many contracts have auto renewal provisions that may lock you in for another three to five years at high pricing. Also its common to have a 30 or 60 day termination notification period. Are there any hidden termination fees they failed to mention? Local dealers and even national dealers such as ADT make a LOT of money on alarm monitoring so they will make it as hard as possible for customers to leave.
Do you own your alarm equipment? Another reason to read your existing alarm agreement carefully. ADT for example offers “free” home security systems when you sign up for their multiyear alarm monitoring plan. Obviously nothing is free. In this case ADT owns the main equipment such as control panel, keypad, motion sensor. Anything added additional you would own but if you terminate service or do not renew the high priced monitoring they remove “their” equipment leaving you with no working alarm system. Just another sneaky method to retain highly profitable accounts.
Do you already have a cellular communicator? This can be either as part of a plugin wireless system module or hardwired addon unit. Your alarm panel using a cellular communicator actually “talks” with an Interactive Services (IS) provider not the central station directly.
It is important to understand what alarm panel model you currently have as well as what Interactive Services provider is/was used. A cellular communicator compatible with Honeywell Alarmnet will not work with any other provider such as SecureNet. Communicators are built for a particular Interactive Services provider, they are not universal unfortunately. In general this is not a problem if you already like the IS provider you are using other than price your alarm company is charging for their services.
Large national alarm companies such as ADT sometimes use proprietary communicators which will ONLY work with ADT. If this is the case then a replacement cellular communicator would be required. The breakeven for the replacement equipment cost however is usually less than six months.
Do you know the “Installer Code” for your alarm panel? In many cases the installing alarm company did not provide this important code to you despite you owning the equipment. This code is used to get into the programming area of your security system. Since the Account Number will need to be modified, getting into Program Mode is necessary.
If you do not know the Installer Code nicely ask your existing or previous alarm company for this code. They know what it is since they used it to put their account information into your panel. In some cases dealers will want to send a technician to your home to change the code, and of course charge you for the visit ($100). There is no reason why they can’t tell you this code over the phone. Don’t fall for this last chance to milk you!
Depending on the brand and model alarm control panel there may be a “back door” into your panel if the Installer Code is not known. Honeywell/Ademco Vista panels for example have an easy way to get into Program Mode if the code was forgotten. Others however must be “factory reset” meaning it erases all current configuration (zones, passcodes, etc.) and acts like a new panel out of the box. Reprogramming the panel is NOT something you want to tackle on your own and usually requires a local dealer to assist. Hopefully you know the Installer Code or can get it from the previous dealer without hassle.
When upgrading from a landline some cellular communicators such as the Telguard TG1 (which can be programmed remotely by us at no charge) the communicator will fool your alarm panel into thinking its still connected to a POTS line. The Telguard unit will change the account number automatically so there is no need to get into Program Mode at all. The Telguard TG1 is available in Verizon or AT&T LTE flavors.
Steps Involved
Make the purchase for UL Central Station Alarm Monitoring. Select billing period: Monthly, Six Months, Annual. We get a prepay discount from our UL central station provider which we pass on to our customers. Annual billing comes with a 15% discount for example. This is NOT a contract, rather a prepay discount.
You can also select the two-way voice option if your equipment is compatible (has a mic and speaker in the keypad).
If your communicator is compatible with Interactive Services such as remote arm/disarm (Basic) or Z-Wave home automation (Enhanced), select these services as well if desired.
Complete our Alarm Monitoring Enrollment Form. This details your address, telephone number to verify alarm before dispatch, passcode to validate user, zone information, etc.
Schedule your activation time and date. In general we can get you online same day but we are here 7 days a week so pick a time convenient for you.
Change the account number in your control panel. We will help you over the phone make these minor changes at your keypad. This is where the Installer Code comes in. If using the Telguard TG1 this step is not necessary because we will remotely program the cellular communicator with a new account number.
Test the changes. We will have you arm your alarm system then trip a few zones to verify signals are being properly received by the central station. Its important we test all life safety zones such as smoke or carbon monoxide detectors!
We next put your monitoring account online. You are now fully protected with UL central station monitoring!
You will receive an email (generally within 30 minutes of going online) showing your account’s data with the central station. Review this information to make sure your telephone numbers, address, etc. are correct. You will also receive an Alarm Monitoring Certification to give to your homeowner insurance agent. Most give a 10% – 20% annual premium discount for a monitored alarm system so its important to have this certification.

I just switched my ADT SafeWatch Pro to Alarm.com and cutting my monthly service fees by 1/2. I was worried about making the wiring change but Tim was right, it was not difficult at all to do myself with his help over the phone. I didnt have any remote control ability with ADT and they never offered it except to sell my a “new” panel and contract. Really happy my neighbor turned me on to this company.
I have a Honeywell Lyric wireless alarm system that is currently being monitored by a local dealer but looking for less expensive service. Are there any differences between your service and others? Is it an easy swap? I am using both WIFI and cellular today.
Hello James! We use Honeywell’s AlarmNet for both IP Internet and cellular connectivity from your Lyric panel and our UL central station. We use COPS Monitoring for alarm monitoring dispatch which has six redundant central stations spread throughout the US. Moving to a new monitoring providers is generally easy but a little complicated when using a Lyric panel. If you still have active AlarmNet service with your local dealer they must “release” the MAC address for your panel before any other dealer can address your panel. Could be released in an hour by some companies while others will drag their feet for at least a week before releasing your Lyric address (they hope you will sign back up).
The other issue is if the panel was registered with AlarmNet previously then the Lyric must be factory reset (defaulted) meaning all sensors must be relearned once again like a new installation. Honeywell only included this “feature” with Lyric which was designed to help dealers retain alarm monitoring accounts due to takeover. We offer free remote Lyric programming however so no worries.
Switched from ADT last week and wow what a difference. Less cost, no contract, and a fast call from the dispatchers. Took about 30 minutes testing that all zones worked with Tim. Very pleased!
Can you monitor a DSC PC1832 alarm system? I use a landline today but would like to upgrade to cellular. Is that possible and is it expensive to upgrade?
Hello Jim! We can monitor DSC’s full line of alarm panels, both hardwired and wireless systems. For the DSC PC1832 we recommend a universal cellular communicator such as the Telguard TG1 Express to take advantage of the newer LTE carrier networks. We have both Verizon (TG1LX001) as well as AT&T (TG1LAX02) versions in LTE format. Both are under $150 and no contract cellular alarm monitoring is only $14.95. The communicator hookup is just four wires and we’ll walk you through it over the phone. We program the Telguard TG1 remotely so no need to worry about any system programming. Just give us a call if you need more info.
I have a Lynx Touch wireless panel with a cellular card installed though it has not been used (not monitored) for almost two years now. Another dealer told me I have a Verizon CDMA card and they could not activate service using it. Can you use this card?
Hello Drake! Sounds like you have a CDMA-L57 cellular communicator installed. Verizon stopped activating all new CDMA devices on their network as of June 2018. This relates to both alarm communicators as well as cell phones. If you still had service running your CDMA card would continue to work until the network goes end of life completely (12/31/2022 if using AlarmNet).
In your case if you want to use cellular for alarm monitoring you will need to upgrade the communicator in your panel with an LTE card which is actually very easy to do, plus we can walk you through the process over the telephone.
The card you want is either the LTE-L57A (ATT) or LTE-L57V (Verizon). Just pick the carrier that has a stronger signal in your home (or at least near the Lynx Touch. These two cards will work for both the L5210 and L7000 Honeywell Lynx Touch models. Call us if you have any additional questions.
Purchased my new Honeywell Lyric security system through SafeHomeCentral and have them also providing alarm monitoring. They programmed the whole system as part of the purchase so getting monitoring turned on was simple. All that was necesaary was to activate a few alarms to ensure everything was working correctly. Using TC2 for remote control of the security as well as home automation devices. Very slick. Spent a lot of time researching both system cost as well as alarm monitoring cost and these guys were clear winners especially with the programming thrown in. Highly recommend.
I have a Honeywell V20P that was installed 4 years ago by a local security dealer who is unfortunately going out of business. Can you monitor this particular alarm system? We use a phone line today but woud like to upgrade to cellular monitoring and have the ability to control the alarm from our phones. Is this possibe as an upgrade?
Hello Janet! Yes we can monitor your Honeywell Vista-20P system as well as get you ugraded to AlarmNet Total Connect 2 interactive services to remotely control your alarm. Upgrading is actually fairly easy for DIY homeowners and does not require an engineering degree. Hooking up the cellular communicator is just four wires and we guide you through where the connections should be made. The only question is what firmware version is your Vista-20P running. For TC2 to work you need to be at version 9.12 or higher but if the panel is only 4 years old its probably already at the minimum version. To be sure just open up the control panel (the metal enclosure in the closet or basement and not the keypad on the wall) and you will see a white tag on the PROM in the top center of the circuit board. It will say something like WA20-9.12
We recommend the Honeywell LTE-XV (Verizon) or LTE-XA (ATT) cellular communicator for your panel.
If your firmware is below V9.12 we also have a kit that includes a new pop-in PROM and communicator. Again we woud guide you through this upgrade which is not difficult for the average DIY customer. The kits are the LTE-XV-TC2 (Verizon) and LTE-XA-TC2 (ATT).
Hello Robert! Cellular alarm monitoring is accomplished by sending signals through a cellular “communicator” that is compatible for your particular alarm system. This communicator is essentially a stripped down cell phone in a box that is designed to work with alarm systems. Our $14.95 alarm monitoring fee includes not only the UL central station dispatch but also cellular charges.
Most communicators are available in AT&T and Verizon models and we recommend choosing an LTE version which is the fastest and newest on the market currently. Just check out our Alarm Communicators section for models available. We have brand specific models as well as universal models that will work with almost any brand alarm system. Just give us a call if you need help choosing the appropriate cellular communicator.
“Affordable” pricing is exactly what these people offer. Was paying $36.50/month for what I now pay $17.95 with cellular Total Connect 2! Very easy transition.
